When your Keurig displays the "descale" alert, it means that mineral buildup has been detected inside the machine. It's crucial to descale regularly to maintain performance, ensure optimal brewing temperature, and extend the life of your Keurig. Ignoring the alert can lead to clogs, weak brews, and eventual machine failure. Here's what you need to do:

1. Gather Supplies:

• Keurig Descaling Solution (or white vinegar)
• Water
• A large mug or container (at least 12 ounces)

2. Prepare the Keurig:

• Remove and clean the water reservoir.
• Remove the Keurig filter (if applicable).

3. Descaling Process:

• Using Keurig Descaling Solution: Follow the instructions on the descaling solution bottle. Typically, you'll pour the solution into the water reservoir, then fill the rest of the reservoir with water.

• Using White Vinegar: Mix equal parts white vinegar and water. Fill the water reservoir with this mixture.

• Run the Descaling Cycle:

  • Place a large mug on the drip tray.
  • Press the descale button (if your model has one). Some models automatically enter descaling mode when the alert is triggered. Refer to your Keurig's user manual for specific instructions.
  • If your Keurig doesn't have a dedicated descaling button, brew the largest cup size repeatedly until the reservoir is empty. Discard the brewed liquid.

4. Rinse the Keurig:

• Fill the water reservoir with fresh water.
• Brew the largest cup size several times, discarding the brewed water each time, until the water reservoir is empty. This removes any remaining descaling solution or vinegar.

5. Repeat if Necessary:

• If the "descale" alert persists after completing the steps above, repeat the entire process. In particularly stubborn cases of scaling, multiple cycles may be needed.

6. Reassemble and Enjoy:

• Replace the water filter (if removed).
• Refill the water reservoir.
